Building an Offline Cult

How a slow, analog magazine built real community in a world that runs on follower counts.

From 2018 to 2025, Cult Classic Magazine made a practice of finding the people the algorithm missed: hometown heroes, the quiet engines of local scenes, and creators you couldn’t reach through a screen. It never chased acclaim, yet it earned a devoted following for how it experimented with the printed page, ignored hype culture, and chose to move slowly in an industry built on speed and content.

Justin Morris, Creative Director of Cult Classic and Executive Creative Director at Kamp Grizzly, looks back on six issues of building community the analog way. He’ll talk about spotting talent that goes beyond a follower count, creating IRL moments where real community can grow, and the case for print as an experience you can touch and interact with, designed for every sense and not only the eyes.

Come for a conversation about slowing down, showing up in person, and making work that lasts.

Justin Morris

Justin Morris is a New York-based Creative Director, artist, and storyteller whose work sits at the intersection of culture, design, and community.

As Executive Creative Director at Kamp Grizzly, Morris has spent his career developing culturally informed creative work for brands including adidas, Netflix, Apple, and HBO. His practice spans brand campaigns, experiential design, film, editorial, and cultural programming, with an approach rooted in collaboration and the communities shaping contemporary culture.
Alongside his work at KAMP, Morris served as Creative Director of Cult Classic Magazine, the independent publication founded in 2018 as a platform for artists, writers, musicians, designers, and thinkers working at the edges of culture. Across six issues, Cult Classic documented emerging and established creative voices while building a community around independent publishing, storytelling, and experimentation.

Outside of commercial work, Morris maintains a multidisciplinary art practice spanning film, video, sculpture, and publishing. A graduate of Tyler School of Art, where he studied Graphic and Interactive Design, his work is connected by an ongoing interest in people, subculture, and the ways creative expression can document a particular place and moment in time.
