The power of instinct in design and branding
Advice, insights, and inspiration from the renowned agency behind some of the world’s most iconic brand identities
No other design company has worked with as many influential brands as Turner Duckworth, the agency behind the visual identities of Amazon, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, and even Metallica. In “I love it. What is it?”, Turner Duckworth shares the inside scoop on what makes brands tick, revealing one of its core philosophies: to succeed in the creative industry, follow your heart.
To celebrate the publication of “I love it. What is it?”, join AIGA NY, Phaidon, and Turner Duckworth for a conversation with Turner Duckworth Global CEO Joanne Chan and Global Chief Creative Officer Sarah Moffat, moderated by AIGA NY board member, Naeiri Zargarian.
A limited number of books will be available for purchase at the event, but we strongly encourage you to purchase the book in advance (with ticket purchase).

Speakers
Joanne Chan, Turner Duckworth Global CEO
Joanne is the Global CEO of Turner Duckworth, a world-class branding agency with studios in San Francisco, London and New York. Turner Duckworth has designed some of the world’s most valuable brands, including Amazon, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Levi’s and Samsung. Joanne’s first career was in the art world, having worked at prestigious art galleries in New York, Monaco and San Francisco, and the Guggenheim Museum. After deciding on a career shift, Joanne became employee #2 at Turner Duckworth San Francisco, establishing and growing its design business in the United States. Over 24 years, Joanne went from managing brand identity and packaging projects, to focusing on new business, operations and finance, leading to the acquisition of Turner Duckworth by Publicis Groupe in 2014. Joanne was appointed global CEO in 2019. Joanne was awarded the honor of AdAge Leading Women in 2021 and GDUSA People to Watch 2024. She lives in Marin County, where she, her husband and teenage daughter are outnumbered by their four cats.
Sarah Moffat, Turner Duckworth Global Chief Creative Officer
Sarah has worked at Turner Duckworth for over 25 years. She’s currently the Global Chief Creative Officer but started her career in the metaphorical mail room of the London studio. She has a passion for building iconic brands with visual identities to match but it’s her understanding of what makes humans human and her belief that things can always be better that gets her out of bed in the morning. Sarah has served multiple consecutive years as a D&AD Impact Council member and is a regular fixture on the judging circuit. She’s authored a number of industry thought pieces and is never short of an opinion. Her ability to blend creativity with strategic thinking has earned her multiple accolades, including awards from prestigious institutions such as Cannes Lions, Clios and D&AD. She knows the best ideas are often hidden in the most unlikely places and she’s on a quest to uncover them all.
