DESIGN + PUBLIC SPACE THE CROSSROADS OF DESIGN: TIMES SQUARE

Join us for an evening with Tim Tompkins, Sherry Dobbin and Scott Stowell as they examine the interaction between design, art, innovation, the built environment, and public space. What is the role of design experimentation in Times Square, the crossroads of commerce, culture, creativity, entertainment, media, advertising, and spectacle? We’ll explore the permanent and temporary, historic and contemporary, interventions and interruptions in and around the world’s stage as catalyst for imagination, impact and change.

Tim Tompkins is President of Times Square Alliance (TSA), the business improvement district working to improve and promote Times Square cultivating the creativity, energy and edge that have made the area an icon of entertainment, culture and urban life for over a century.

Sherry Dobbin leads Times Square Arts, the Alliance’s public art program. She is responsible for programming Times Square with high-quality installations and cutting-edge performance art from artists around the world. Most recently Sherry served as Director of The Watermill Center.

Scott Stowell is the proprietor of Open, an independent design studio that creates rewarding experiences for people who look, read, and think. In the 20th century, Scott worked (with Tibor Kalman and Robert A.M. Stern) on design guidelines for 42nd Street and (with Creative Time) on the 42nd Street Art Project.

All event attendees have access to the museum after the talk.
