Cameron Koczon: Design in NYC, A State of the Union
In 2012, Cameron wrote on A List Apart that “Design is on a roll.” Designers were regularly abandoning client and in-house work to co-found startups and the internet seemed to be experiencing a grand awakening regarding the value of design and designers. All that seemed to be left was for designers themselves to realize that value, and claim the utopia of meaningful work in a serious and equal partnership with developers and funders. Two years later, here in New York, we’ve made little progress towards this vision. In this talk, Cameron will address the state of the union: how the design community is seen by outsiders, the role that we are playing to date, and where we can go next.
Cameron Koczon is a Partner at Fictive Kin a digital agency in Brooklyn. Fictive Kin builds products for clients (The Atlantic, Betaworks, Sapient) as well as themselves. They built TeuxDeux alongside the wonderful SwissMiss and organize Brooklyn Beta a friendly web conference. They recently partnered with Ben Pieratt to save Svpply in the form of Very Goods.
