BREAKFAST CLUB TYPEFACES MADE TO ORDER
Struggling to find that perfect typeface? Perhaps the best solution is one that doesn’t exist yet. Or maybe just a few small tweaks to an existing face would make your design sing. Creating a typeface may sound daunting, but it can be a fluid process if you work with seasoned pro. Commissioning type is similar to working with a photographer or illustrator, with a few key differences. Font Bureau’s Dyana Weissman will demystify the process, covering such topics as the collaborative workflow, developing an original concept, modifying an existing design, and ethical concerns. Learn what to expect, whether you need help developing an extensive type family or just cleaning up a logotype. And if you’ve been dying to start designing type yourself, Dyana can point you in the right direction to get started.
Dyana Weissman is a typeface designer at Font Bureau, where she has been working since graduating the Rhode Island School of Design. At Font Bureau, she has done work with publications all over the world, including The Financial Times, the Washington Post, and TIME. She has also worked with studios such as Saatchi and Saatchi, Korn Design, and Pentagram for custom typeface solutions. She has been a presenter at ATypI, TypeCon, and Type Camp, but also enjoys sharing her expertise in the Boston area with college students, wizard rock bands, and astrophysicists.
