Breakfast Club: Contracts for Designers

“Oh, that’s just boilerplate, don’t worry about that.” Ever hear that before? Well, boilerplate matters, a great deal. All contract language has legal significance – every word. Contracts, whether vendor, independent contractor, work for hire, consulting, employment, master services, etc. can be a trap for the unwary. Learn what to look for and what to include in yours.

Christopher Travis, Esq. graduated magna cum laude from Binghamton University, where he was named to Phi Beta Kappa, and earned his Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law. Mr. Travis is a member of the New York bar and has a varied practice focusing on securities, corporate, real estate and general commercial litigation matters. Mr. Travis also represents film and television talent in studio and network negotiations. In the securities area, he has represented large and mid-size securities firms and hedge funds in numerous arbitrations before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and in State and Federal Court litigation. Of recent note, Mr. Travis represented a major party in the Bernard Madoff investment fraud litigation. In the corporate and real estate context, Mr. Travis provides general counsel and litigation representation to various securities and real estate firms and has represented numerous corporations in acquisition and financing transactions.
