ALEX LIN: WHAT TO DO (AND NOT DO) AS A GRAPHIC DESIGNER

In two short years, designer’s designer Alex Lin has built a body of work so beautiful, smart and varied and amassed a stable of clients so fitting that he makes it all seem completely effortless.

But, according to Alex, that’s not the case. Creating Studio Lin and Studio Lin’s work has been a constant learning experience.  Every Studio Lin project has come with a lesson, either “What To Do” or “What Not To Do.” For example: “Don’t let projects drag-on for too long, or else the client will lose their enthusiasm and nothing will ever feel good enough.”

Please join AIGA/NY at the Museum of Arts and Design for an evening with Alex Lin of Studio Lin. Alex will present recent projects and reveal the design lessons that each project has taught him. Keep a pen handy.

Before opening Studio Lin, Alex Lin laid the foundation for his own design practice by collaborating with some of the field’s greatest minds. After receiving an MFA in graphic design from Yale University, Alex spent six years at the design firm 2×4 and three years as a partner at Default.

Alex’s work has been featured and awarded by leading design publications such as Wallpaper, ID Magazine, Print Magazine, Metropolis, Azure, Tank, Surface, Architectural Record, Span, Victionary and exhibited at the Museum of Modern art and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum.

In 2005 Alex was named an Art Director’s Club Young Gun, in 2006 he was in STEP magazine’s field guide for emerging designers, and in 2009 he was honored as an Avant Guardian by Surface Magazine. In 2007 his Mies face artwork, created at 2×4, became part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art.
