Become a Volunteer
AIGA/NY shares office space with AIGA, the national organization, at the headquarters on Fifth Avenue and has a very small staff. AIGA/NY depends on the help and good will of volunteers to carry out a calendar of about 25 events per year, in addition to the Mentoring Program and other NY chapter initiatives.

Volunteering with AIGA/NY can be a great way to network, to attend NY chapter events at no charge, and to give back to your community.

Volunteers are most often needed at events in the areas of registration, preparation of give-away materials, ushering, and light food service. Generally, you are asked to arrive an hour before the presentation begins, you’re introduced to your fellow volunteers, and you get to work on setting up the event. At show time, you’re on your own to enjoy the presentation.

If you would like to be added to the pool of volunteers that are regularly contacted about opportunities to help out, please email .

Design Your Life with Ellen Luptongo

Ellen Lupton has been Cooper-Hewitt’s curator of contemporary design since 1992. Her new book, Design Your Life: The Pleasures and Perils of Everyday Things (St. Martin’s Press, May 2009), is co-authored with her twin sister Julia. Design Your Life takes an irreverent and realistic look at everything from toasters, bras, and pillows to housekeeping and procrastination. Speaking to readers who are both design-conscious and consumer-wary, Design Your Life taps into the popular interest in design as well as people’s desire to make their own way through a mass-produced world. The book, and others by Ellen Lupton, will be available for purchase and signing.
