A CAMERA, MARKER, PAPER & SCISSORS = CASEY NEISTAT
A CAMERA, MARKER, PAPER & SCISSORS = CASEY NEISTAT
Casey Neistat will show and tell you how he taught himself everything from design to filmmaking since he dropped out of high school. His tools are simple; a camera, a marker, paper and scissors and anything that surrounds him, which he incorporates into stories on topics such as the subway's emergency brake and Facebook's privacy settings. A New York-based artist and filmmaker, Neistat carved his work space out of four commercial spaces in downtown Manhattan and his studio includes the only indoor halfpipe on Broadway.
Casey was born in 1981. He grew up in Gales Ferry, Connecticut and went to Ledyard High School. In 1999, Casey got a camera and imac and figured out how to make movies. Working with his brother Van, Casey made myriad short films through 2007 when along with Tom Scott, production began on a television series entitled The Neistat Brothers. Casey wrote, directed and starred in the series which was sold to HBO in 2008 and premiered on the network in the summer of 2010. He and business partner Tom Scott founded NaSA Entertainment in 2008 and currently operate the production company out of New York City. Casey also Executive Produced Josh Safdie's first feature film, The Pleasure of Being Robbed, 2008 which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was made available in the US through IFC.
