AIGA/NY COMEDY NIGHT:
FEATURING AN EVENING OF BAD
(LIKE, REALLY BAD) BOOK COVERS
AIGA/NY COMEDY NIGHT
Featuring An Evening of Bad (like, really bad) Book Covers
AIGA/NY is excited to have Patrick Borelli perform his one-man multimedia show, "You Should Judge a Book by Its Cover," where he takes thirty of the oddest book covers and tears them a new one. Joining him on stage are Dan Kennedy (author and host of Moth Story Slam), comedienne Julie Klausner and book cover designer Evan Gaffney. The show also features videos of interviews Patrick conducted with Steven Heller, Chip Kidd and Rodrigo Corral.
Patrick Borelli is the co-author of the book Holy Headshot!: A Celebration of America's Undiscovered Talent www.holyheadshot.com. He's also been published in The Onion and McSweeney's Quarterly. He's written for numerous Comedy Central, MTV and Adult Swim shows. He has appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, VH1's Best Week Ever, Cartoon Network's Home Movies and Assy McGee, and Public Radio's Fair Game. Patrick worked as a designer at Workman Publishing for 10 years, designing covers, interiors, calendars and displays. His freelance clients include Workman Publishing, Simon & Schuster and ESPN Books.
Dan Kennedy is a writer and comedy/story telling performer living in New York City and the author of these two books: national best seller "Rock On" (Algonquin, 2008) and the widely-acclaimed debut "Loser Goes First" (Crown, 2003). He is a longstanding contributor at McSweeney's dot net, and a regular host of The Moth's StorySLAMs in New York.
Julie Klausner is the author of I Don't Care About Your Band (Gotham Books). Her long list of writing and performing credits include: The Best Week Ever, The Big Gay Sketch Show, Robert Smigels TV Funhouse, SNL, Strangers With Candy, Heeb, and New York Dog Magazine. Her website, predictably, is www.julieklausner.com.
Evan Gaffney is an award-winning designer specializing in book covers, packaging and collateral for a broad spectrum of clients that includes Harper Collins, Penguin-Putnam, Random House, Simon & Schuster, W.W. Norton, and Nonesuch Records. Gaffney's work has been featured in numerous magazines that only designers read, and is available on quality discount racks throughout the world.
The Members Series is an ongoing series of events that are open to the general public, but cater to Member's concerns for content, networking and price. These events will be comprised of workshops and how-to sessions, as well as more social evenings geared toward raucous fun, like this one. Want to know more? Come and see for yourself!
